Regardless of whether an Emergency Equine Medication Veterinary Declaration is completed online by the treating veterinarian, the fully completed Emergency Equine Medication Report Form [SC3.1] must still be submitted to the Stewards/Technical Delegate at the competition by the PR.

The horse must be withdrawn from competition for a minimum of 24 hours after the final administration of the non-permitted substance reported on the Emergency Equine Medication Report Form.

Refer to EC Rules, Section A, Article A1005 [SC4.1]Emergency Veterinary Treatment Paragraphs 1a and 1b for exceptions:

• 1005.1a: Dexamethasone – 12 hour withdrawal period when administered 10mg or less by injection, permitted once per competition.
• 1005.1b: Salbutamol and/or fluticasone and/or ciclesonide – No withdrawal period when administered only by metred-dose inhaler as per veterinary prescription.

Once the minimum time has elapsed, the horse may return to competition provided that in doing so it is not detrimental to the overall welfare of the horse nor accelerate a disease process.
